Aurand & Jean-Jules Named Paul W. Rice Memorial ’39 Award Recipients

Salem, Va. – Roanoke College Athletics has announced senior track & field student-athletes Jayna Jean-Jules and Claire Aurand have been named co-recipients of the Paul W. Rice Memorial Award

The Paul W. Rice Memorial Award is presented to the senior student athlete who has made a significant contribution to campus life at Roanoke College.  The award helps us remember Paul Rice '39, captain of the Famous Five Smart Boys Basketball Team of the late 30's and president of the student body during his senior year.

Aurand is a member of Roanoke College's Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society along with five other Honors Societies at the College. A native of Richland, Wash., Aurand was part of Roanoke's Roanoke Refugee Partnership where she volunteered tutoring refugee students. She was a key member of the RC Athletic Department serving in a leadership role for the department's game day staff where she served in various roles, insuring student-athletes a quality game day experience. On the track she is a 12-time All-ODAC selection in the 60M, 100M, 200M, and 4X100M Relay. She was a member of the ODAC Champion 4x100m team and part of the quartet to hold the school record in the 4x200 Relay. Aurand majored in Biochemistry and will attend University of Penn's Nursing Accelerated BSN/MSN Program.

A native of Waynesboro, Va., Jean-Jules was a three-time ODAC Weight Throw Champion ('18, '19, '20) and was a five-time All-ODAC choice in the weight and hammer throw. Jean-Jules graduated with a degree in Chemistry and held leadership positions in both the Campus Activities Board and among RC's Resident Advisors. She served as an Event Manager for CAB as both a junior and senior, helping the organization earn "Program of the year" two years in a row. She was also named Returning RA of the Year prior to the start of this academic year.

"These two ladies represent everything our Women's XC/Track & Field program is all about with their hard work, dedication, and leadership said RC Head Coach Gene Galloway.
