Roanoke Back on Winning Track against Maine-Presque Isle, 6-0
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke scored three runs in the sixth inning to pull away from Maine-Presque Isle, 6-0 in non-conference action Wednesday evening at Kiwanis Field. The Maroons are now 3-6 on the season, while the Owls fall to 0-5.
 
The Maroons, who are 2-0 at home this season, collected 11 hits for the second-straight game. The pitching staff allowed a season-low four hits and earned their first shutout of the season.
 
Jacob McMillian doubled to bring home Scott Thurston as Roanoke took a 1-0 lead after one inning of play. 
 
After scoring a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, Roanoke broke the game open with a three-run sixth, thanks to two of the Owls three errors in the bottom frame.
 
McMillian went 3-for-3 on the day with a walk, a double, a run and an RBI to lead the Maroons. Scott Thurston, Jacob Clifton and Mark Manthe collected two hits each.
 
John Terlesky got the start and went two innings, striking out three batters. Mark Wimmer had a strikeout in two innings while Michael Haslem (1-1) earned the win in relief, fanning two Owls in two innings of work. Tyler Grouten earned his second save of the year, as he finished with two strikeouts in the final three innings.  
 
The men return to action this weekend in a three-game series against the Mountaineers of Southern Vermont. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday, Feb. 26 while a nine-inning contest is played on Sunday, Feb. 26. Game times for both days are scheduled for noon.
