The Lead: Roanoke scored eight runs in the final three innings to take a 12-6 win over Dickinson in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • Sean Guida got things going for the Maroons in the first inning when he led off with a walk then went to third on a Scott Ellis double. Sam Watson was hit by a pitch before Robbie Edwards drew a walk to plate Guida and make it 1-0. Sacrifice flies from Will Merriken and Dean Hermanson later in the inning would score two more and make it a 3-0 game.
  • After scoring a lone run in the third, Dickinson got four runs sparked by back to back walks to start the top of the fifth. Brendan Pell then drove in Pat Davis before Robbie Thompson hit a single and Jonathan Chudacoff hit a double to help Dickinson take a 5-3 lead.
  • Roanoke cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run from Merriken to make it 5-4.
  • The Red Devils tacked on one more run in the sixth but that would be as much as Dickinson would get as Roanoke scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth off two walks, two hit by pitches and a single from Ellis to take a 7-6 lead.
  • In the seventh, RC added four insurance runs with a leadoff walk from Cody Shell followed by a single from Guida and Ellis was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Sam Watson reached on a fielder's choice and Guida and Shell scored on a Dickinson throwing error on the play. Jack Howard hit an RBI single to score Ellis and Hermanson drove in Watson to make it 11-6.
  • Merriken knocked in the final run with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eight.
  • Nick Raulin (1-0) earned the win with 3.0 innings of work, allowing only two hits and striking out six. Alex Gusikoff (0-1) was tabbed with the loss after giving up four runs.
  • Merriken had four RBI going 1-for-3 while Howard and Hermanson each tallied two RBI.
  • Chudacoff led the Red Devils with two RBI going 1-for-5 while Alex Cohen went 2-for-3.
