How it Happened

  • In the Roanoke first inning, Sean Guida singled to lead off the game and went to second on an Eli Sumpter walk. Will Salva followed with a single to score Guida and make it 1-0 Maroons.
  • A Jack Howard sacrifice fly scored Sumpter from third before Robbie Edwards singled home Salva to make it 3-0.
  • Shenandoah got a run back in the bottom of the first inning before Roanoke broke the game open with a seven-run second inning. Will Smith opened the inning with a walk then went to third on a one-out single by Sumpter. Salva followed with a single to score both Smith and Sumpter and make it a 5-1 game.
  • RC would load the bases later in the inning and go ahead 6-1 when Sam Watson was hit by a pitch that plated Salva. Will Merriken followed with an RBI single to push the RC lead to 7-1 then Dean Hermanson hit a bases-clearing double to make it 10-1.
  • With RC leading 11-1 in the fifth inning, Guida led off with a double and would score following back-to-back wild pitches. A Salva solo home run later that inning made the score 13-1 Roanoke.
  • A Guida sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning brought home Hermanson who had singled to open the inning and would give RC a 14-1 advantage.
  • Ben West picked up the win for Roanoke on the mound after going the first five innings and surrendering two runs on two hits. West improves his record to 4-1 on the season.
