Sam Watson Named ODAC Baseball Player of the Week

FOREST, Va. – Roanoke College's Sam Watson has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Baseball Player of the Week.

Watson, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Va., was a mainstay on the basepaths in the Maroons 4-1 week as he generated 14 runs of offense and hit .526 (10-for-19) with a pair of walks for the week. Watson reached base at least twice in each game and registered four multi-hit outings. He opened with a 2-for-4 showing with three runs driven in and a run scored in a 15-6 non-conference win over Greensboro. He had two more hits including a double with an RBI, run scored, and a walk in a 5-3 win over Emory & Henry. Watson went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the Maroons lone setback, an 8-5 decision to Washington and Lee. He followed with a 1-for-3 effort in a 6-1 win in game two, driving in two runs and scoring once with a walk and a stolen base. He capped his week with a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI and two runs scored in an 11-2 non-conference victory over Ferrum. For the season, Watson is hitting .319 (37-for-116) with four doubles, 27 runs scored, and 21 runs driven in.
