Guida Named ABCA South Region Player of the Year; Howard Named All-Region

SALEM, Va. – Roanoke College outfielder Sean Guida has been named the 2018 South Region Player of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Guida is joined on the all-region team by Jack Howard as well.

Region Player of Year and First-Team All-Region from the ABCA is the latest awards for Guida who was named the ODAC Player of the Year and First-Team All-Region by D3baseball.com. Howard was named Third-Team All-Region after being named First-Team All-ODAC at third base.

Guida hit at a .403 clip this season which was second-best in the league. He led the league with 71 hits and runs with 55. His .699 slugging percentage was tops in the league along with his 123 total bases. Guida's seven triples were the most in the league, while his seven home runs were fifth best.

With his first-team selection, Guida is now eligible for ABCA All-American honors which will be announced May 24.

Howard earns all-region accolades following a season that saw him hit .348 for the season which ranked 16th highest in the ODAC. He had 55 hits on the season and ranked in the top-10 in the ODAC in doubles (14), walks (30) and one-base percentage (.455). Howard also had one home run and drove in 36 runs on the year.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 9,600 members represent all 50 states and 25 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 75th annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 3-6, 2019 in Dallas, Texas.
