The Basics

Game 1
Score: Roanoke 2, R/V Shenandoah 1
Records: Roanoke 9-9, 6-0 ODAC | Shenandoah 8-4, 4-2 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va. 

The Lead: Roanoke scored two runs in the bottom of the six to take game one 2-1 over Shenandoah.

How it Happened:

  • Shenandoah took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth as Jamie Naill hit a leadoff single and advanced to third on two wild pitches before scoring on another wild pitch.
  • Will Merriken was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the sixth before Dean Hermanson hit a double to left field. Will Salva evened the game with an RBI single to right, scoring Merriken. Sam Watson then plated Hermanson with a ground out to shortstop to give Roanoke a 2-1 lead.
  • Kevin Ledford took the mound for the Maroons in the top of the seventh and recorded two perfect innings and allowed only one hit in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
  • Chris Dudley earned the win and Ledford was credited the save allowing only two hits in a combined 4 2/3 innings. Starter, Kenny Mackovic allowed only four hits and one run in the first 4 1/3 innings while striking out three.
  • Gavin Kandrick was 2-for-3 and Salva was 2-for-4 for the Maroons.
  • Wyatt Potter led SU going 3-for-4 with a double. Reeves Lowry took the loss giving up two runs off seven hits in five innings.

Game 2
Score: R/V Shenandoah 3, Roanoke 2
Records: Roanoke 9-10, 6-1 ODAC, Shenandoah 9-4, 5-2 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Shenandoah scored three runs in the top of the eighth to take game two 3-2 over Roanoke.

How it Happened:

  • After six scoreless innings, Jack Howard hit a two-out two-run homer to give Roanoke a 2-0 lead, scoring alongside Howard was Will Merriken who drew a walk to start the inning.
  • Shenandoah responded with an RBI single from Wyatt Potter to score Tristan Baker who had a leadoff single to make it a 2-1 game. Keegan Woolford then hit a two-out two RBI double to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead.
  • Scott Ellis hit a double to left center in the bottom of the eight but Gerard DePhillips came in to pitch for SU and recorded the final five outs to secure the win.
  • Starter Robert Klinchock earned the win allowing only two runs off four hits in the first 7 1/3 innings while striking out six.
  • Ben West tossed the first 6 1/3 innings allowing five hits while striking out six. Casey Rosenthal recorded a perfect ninth inning for the Maroons with one strikeout.
  • Ellis was 2-for-4 with two doubles while Howard was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
