Roanoke Splits ODAC Doubleheader with EMU

Game 1

The Basics

Score: Roanoke 16, Eastern Mennonite 5
Records: Roanoke 16-15 / 13-5 ODAC | Eastern Mennonite 14-19-1 / 8-10 ODAC
Location: Harrisonburg, Va.  

The Lead: Roanoke used a pair of six run innings en route to a 16-5 win in game one.  

How it Happened

  • EMU led 1-0 in the top of the third inning before RC loaded the bases with two outs and Jack Howard doubled home Matt Wojciechowski and PK Cocolis to make it 2-1 Maroons.
  • Eastern Mennonite tied the game at 2-2 on a Tyler McFadden solo homerun in the fourth inning.
  • In the top half of the fifth inning, RC took advantage of two EMU errors and had five hits to score six runs and take an 8-2 lead.
  • Wojciechowski made it a 9-2 game when he led off the sixth inning with a solo home run of his own.
  • EMU rallied in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the RC lead to 9-5 after getting RBI singles from Ray Tricarico and Jaylon Lee and a sacrifice fly from Corey Willis.
  • The Maroons responded with a six run top of the eighth inning that featured a two-run homerun off the bat of Cocolis that scored Sam Watson who had a two RBI single earlier in the inning.
  • Kenny Mackovic went the first four innings for Roanoke giving up four hits and a pair of runs, while striking out three.
  • Bailey Hall went the first four innings for EMU giving up five runs on six hits.
  • Six Maroons had at least two hits led by Howard and Cocolis with three each.

Game 2

The Basics

Score: Eastern Mennonite 8, Roanoke 7  
Records: Roanoke 16-16 / 13-6 ODAC | Eastern Mennonite 15-19-1 / 9-10 ODAC
Location: Harrisonburg, Va.   

The Lead: Eastern Mennonite topped Roanoke 8-7 in game two to earn a split of the doubleheader.

How it Happened

  • Eastern Mennonite jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning getting a pair of bases loaded walks before Guenther knocked in a pair of runs with an RBI single.
  • After the first two batters were retired in the Roanoke second inning, Robbie Edwards doubled then came around to score on a Will Merriken triple. Cale Agee then followed with a single to score Merriken and make it 4-2.
  • EMU got a run back in the bottom half of the second inning then tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third inning on a Jones RBI doubles that made it 7-2.
  • The score stayed that way until the eighth inning when Howard tripled home Wojciechowski and Hunter Andrews to make it 7-4. Howard then scored two batters later when Watson singled him home to make it 7-5.
  • EMU tacked on an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 8-5.
  • Agee led off the ninth inning with a single and moved to second on a balk. After Cody Shell reached on an error to put runners on second and third, Wojciechowski singled home Agee and Howard brought home Shell on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-7.
  • That would be as close as RC would get as Ryan Brewer was able to get the final out and pick up his first save of the year. Connor Lutz went the first 7.1 innings to get the win for EMU and improve to 3-1. Ben West took the loss for RC to drop to 1-4.
