RC Earns a Pair of Walk-Off Wins Over Lynchburg

Game 1

Score: Roanoke 6, Lynchburg 5

The Lead: PK Cocolis' single bottom of the ninth inning lifted Roanoke to a 6-5 win over Lynchburg in the doubleheader opener.

How it Happened

  • In the Roanoke first inning, Will Smith singled to open the frame and went to second on a one Matt Wojciechowski single. Robbie Edwards then connected for a three-run home run to put RC up 3-0.
  • With Smith on first base in the fifth inning, Cody Shell singled to put runners on first and second. Wojciechowski then doubled to make it a 4-0 game.
  • Lynchburg got an RBI double from Garrett Jackson and RBI singles from both Kinston Carson and Kaden Warren to make it a 4-3 game in the sixth inning.
  • RC got the run right back in the bottom of the sixth inning when Hunter Andrews homered to make it a 5-3 game.
  • The Hornets struck for two runs in the seventh inning, tying the game up on a Jackson RBI single that scored a pair of runs.
  • Wojciechowski was hit by a pitch to start off the ninth inning and went to second on a Jack Howard bunt. After Edwards was intentionally walked, Cocolis delivered a single to win the game.
  • Kevin Ledford (3-0) got the win in relief after tossing three innings and allowing two hits. Santiago Meneses (1-3) took the loss after entering in the ninth inning.
  • Wojciechowski and Edwards each finished with two hits for RC.

Game 2

Score: Roanoke 10, Lynchburg 7 (11 innings)

The Lead: Cale Agee's walk-off home run gave RC a 10-7 win in 11 innings and a sweep of the ODAC doubleheader. 

How it Happened

  • Lynchburg led 1-0 in the first inning when RC's Sam Watson had an infield single with one out, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Howard double to tie the game.
  • The Hornets scored four runs in the top of the second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Jackson to make it a 5-1 game.
  • After Lynchburg pushed across a pair of runs in the top of third inning to make it 7-1, RC rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the third inning on the strength of an Andrews RBI single, a Will Salva double that scored Edwards and an RBI ground out from Gus Rose that scored Andrews and made it 7-4.
  • In the Roanoke ninth inning, Smith walked to open the inning and went to second on a Watson single. Howard doubled with one out to score Smith and make it 7-5. Following a walk to Edwards that loaded the bases, Andrews doubled to score Howard and Watson and tie the game.
  • In the bottom of the 11th inning, Andrews opened the inning with a single then went to second a Salva walk. They each moved a base on a Rose bunt setting up Agee's game-winning home run. 
  • Jeb Byerley  (1-0) pitched a perfect inning of relief in the top of the 11th inning to pick up the win, while Adam Dofflemyer (2-1) took the loss for Lynchburg. 

Up Next: Roanoke will await the pairings for the 2019 ODAC Tournament which is slated to start Friday.
