How it Happened

  • A three-run homer by E.J. Churchich staked LaGrange to a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
  • In the Roanoke fifth inning, Conner Butler walked to open the inning then moved to second when Will Merriken was hit by a pitch.
  • After they both advanced on a sacrifice bunt, Will Smith would plate Butler with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 before the Maroons capitalized on a LaGrange error that allowed Merriken to score and make it 3-2.
  • The Maroons loaded the bases in the top-half of the seventh inning thanks to a pair of LaGrange errors and a hit batter. Hunter Andrews then delivered a sacrifice fly to score Merriken and tie the game at 3-3.
  • Roanoke got the game-winning run in the visitor half of the eighth inning when Cale Agee walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Gavin Kandrick moved Agee to third on a single before a Butler sacrifice fly gave RC a 4-3 lead.
  • Ryan Cloude got the win for the Maroons out of the bullpen after going three innings and giving up just one hit. Kevin Ledford earned his second save in as many days by getting the final three outs, including two strikeouts.
