The Lead: Roanoke College went on the road to the eastern shore to face Virginia Wesleyan in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) double header. The Maroons used a four-run seventh in the opener to pull away for the 9-4 win. A seven-run explosion in the sixth inning of game two would seal the sweep for Roanoke with an 8-5 victory.

How it Happened:

  • Carter Plunkett blasted a two-run home run to left followed by a solo shot from Will Merriken in the top of the first would get Roanoke out to a quick start.
  • One inning later, Gavin Kandrick added another Maroon home run to increase the lead.
  • Tanner James pitched five innings, scattering seven hits and striking out three and left in line to pick up the win.
  • Top of the seventh would see Roanoke put the game way. Tyler De Meo doubled to left and would score on a Will Smith base hit up the middle. After a pitching change, Plunkett would hit his second double of the afternoon to plate a pair.
  • Aiden Kuhle earned his second save of the season with three and two thirds of shutout ball with four strikeouts.
  • Plunkett finished 3-5 with a home run, two doubles, two runs and five RBI. Mason Staz was also 3-5 with three runs scored.

How it Happened:

  • Kandrick delivered an RBI base hit in the top of the second to score Jonny Wall as Roanoke once again took the early advantage.
  • The Maroons would put the game way in the top of the sixth with seven runs. Plunkett was hit by a pitch and Merriken walked before a Wall single would bring Plunkett home. An error on a pickoff attempt would send Merriken home and then Wall would score after Cale Agee struck out but made it to first on a throing error. Kandrick got another base hit and then De Meo reached on another Marlin miscue. A Staz double would score another and then Mason scored on a Plunkett single to left.
  • Will Turner got the start and pitched six strong innings. Turner would give up just five hits with four strikeouts, giving up just two unearned runs en route to his sixth win of the season.
  • Nick Davis and Josh Dawson would combine to record the final nine outs as Roanoke ran their overall record to 21-7, including 13-3 in the ODAC.
  • Wall and Kandrick were each 2-4.

Up Next: Roanoke will travel to Emory & Henry on Wednesday to finish their season series with the Wasps.
