The Lead: With graduation taking place at Roanoke on Saturday, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) quarterfinal matchup with Randolph-Macon got started on Sunday afternoon. The Maroons would lead late but the Yellow Jackets tied the score at 2-2 and the game headed into extra innings. Roanoke put up six runs in the top of the 12th to take the opener, 8-4.

Highlights:

  • Trailing 1-0, Roanoke got a two-run home run from Jeb Byerley to plate Mason Staz and giving Roanoke a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
  • The bottom of the eighth would see a sacrifice fly tie to game and after nine-innings, the game would be tied.
  • The Maroons blew open the game with six in the top of the 12th. PK Cocolis started the frame with a single t left, Jacob Bonzon was hit by a pitch, and Staz walked to load the bases. Troy Ferrell broke the tie with a 2-RBI single. After a fielder's choice and Ty Staz reaching on a hit by pitch, the bases were once again full. Conner Butler added two more runs with a base hit and Owen Lawn made it 7-2 with a single to center while a Jonny Wall fly ball gave Roanoke eight runs.
  • Ryan Cloude recorded the final three outs for the win and putting Roanoke up 1-0 in the series. Cloude went 2-2 innings of relief, giving up six hits and two runs. Caleb Lingenfelter got the start and was in line for the win with seven innings of six hit, five strikeout work.
  • Cocolis recorded two of RC's 10 hits. Three different Maroons had two RBI apiece.

Up next: Roanoke will face the Yellow Jackets in game two of the best two out of three series tomorrow at noon.
