The Basics
Score: Roanoke 14, Guilford 7

The Lead: Big innings in the second and fifth lifted the Roanoke baseball team to a 14-7ODAC win over Guilford on Tuesday afternoon in Greensboro.
Highlights:
- Guilford got on the board first with a single run in the bottom of the first before the Maroons answered right away in the top of the second. After a leadoff walk, Roanoke got three straight hits from Owen Lawn, Corey McCusker, and Tucker Schiavoni that helped score three runs. Schiavoni would eventually come around and score on a Mason Staz at bat, extending the Roanoke lead to 4-1.
- Lawn made the most of this second plate appearance with a one-out solo home run to put the Roanoke lead back up to three at 5-2 after three innings. Not to be outdone, Brody Langlotz collected his second career hit, this one another solo home run for the Maroons to keep pushing the Roanoke lead up to 6-2 after four complete innings.
- For the third straight inning, a Maroon hit a home run. This time it was Conner Butler with one out in the top of the fifth. With two outs in the inning, McCusker and Schiavoni hit singles. A failed pick-off attempt on Schiavoni at first allowed McCusker to score and two batters later, Jacob Bonzon hit a single to left that score Schiavoni. M. Staz followed with a double to left that allowed both Langlotz and Bonzon to score, putting the Maroons ahead 11-3. A single Quaker run in the bottom of the fifth cut the lead down to eight.
- The ninth inning saw both teams add to their total. Roanoke added a trio of runs off RBIs from Jack Carpin (1) and M. Staz (2) as the Maroons led 14-3 going into the bottom of the inning. Three singles loaded the bases before Colin Smith hit a grand slam, cutting the lead down to 14-7. Roanoke got the next two outs to secure the win.
- The 14 runs and 14 hits were the most in a game for the Maroons this season. The three home runs doubled the season total for Roanoke for a team total of six.
- Both Lawn and McCusker finished with three hits to lead eight different Maroons with at least one hit.
- Jackson Murphy got the win in five innings of work on the mound striking out three.
Up next: Roanoke returns home this weekend for an ODAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 when it hosts Washington and Lee. The first pitch against the Generals is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Salem Memorial Ballpark.
