Field Hockey Falls to Rhodes 5-1 on Wednesday
MEMPHIS, TN - The Roanoke College field hockey team fell on the road to Rhodes College, 5-1 on Wednesday. The Maroons now have a record of 7-8, while the Lynx are 9-2 on the year.

The Maroons finish their three-game fall break trip, having traveled down to Arkansas and up through Tennessee. Roanoke went 1-2 on the week, having defeated Hendrix College on Monday, 2-1.

Roanoke took an early 1-0 lead over Rhodes, as Katerina DeSimone found the back of the cage, unassisted, at the 18:24 mark. DeSimone scored her third career goal, and now has 11 points on the year with the help of five assists. Roanoke's 1-0 lead would carry through the first half, ending the first 35 minutes ahead by one.

However, the tides turned in favor of the Lynx in the second half, as Kate Taylor scored the team's first goal just 44 seconds into the period. Taylor assisted the next goal, at the 41-minute mark, as Shauni Cowan scored the eventual game winner. Rhodes scored three goals in the final 15 minutes, seeing goals from Maddie Smith, Erin Best, and Cowan's second of the day. After the final horn, Rhodes picked up the 5-1 win.

Roanoke was held to just five shots during the contest, with DeSimone taking three of the attempts. Kelsey Palmisano and Shelbi Holloman finished with one shot each. Candice Fisher played all 70 minutes in the cage, making a season high 13 saves.

Rhodes finished the game with 27 shots, led by Evy Royther with six. She was followed in attempts by Mary Rose Hazel with four and Christina DiFelice with three. The Lynx goal keeper Erin Baily picked up the win, making four saves in 70 minutes.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, October 22nd as they play host to Washington and Lee University at Kerr Stadium. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
