Field Hockey Falls to W&L in Double Overtime

Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke fell in double overtime battle to Washington and Lee in ODAC Field Hockey. 

How it Happened:

  • Haley Tucker scored with 3:03 left in the second overtime period to give Washington and Lee the win.
  • Martha Hurley gave the Maroons an early 1-0 lead following a goal 15 minutes into the contest. That score would hold going into the intermission as RC outshot W&L 7-4 in the first half.
  • The Generals evened the game, scoring off a corner, with a goal from Lauren Paolano with 24 minutes left in regulation.
  • Four minutes later, the Generals took the lead with a goal from Grace Weise on a breakaway.
  • Fiona Dougan scored the equalizer off a pass from Lauren Heffron with 4:50 left in regulation.
  • The scored stayed at 2-2 for the remainder of regulation and into a second overtime before Tucker was able to weave through the RC defense and score to win the game. 
  • Emma Clark made 10 saves for Roanoke, while Ariyel Yavalar made five stops for W&L.
