The Lead: Emilee Wooten and Martha Hurley each had two goals as the Roanoke College Field Hockey team knocked off Sewanee by the score of 4-1 on Sunday in Salem.

How it Happened

  • Wooten opened the scoring 9:22 into the game when Lauren Heffron popped a pass over the Sewanee defense which Wooten caught up to and broke in on the Tigers keeper and scored to make it 1-0.
  • Wooten doubled the RC advantage at the 22:43 mark when she went one-on-one with a Tiger defender and was able to place a perfect shot into the lower left side of the cage to give RC a 2-0 lead.
  • The Tigers responded just over six minutes later when Elisabeth Dormittner set up Ceara Caffrey for a goal to cut the Maroon lead to 2-1.
  • The game stayed that way until Hurley scored at the 45:29 mark then again just four minutes later to put Roanoke up 4-1 and put the game away.
  • Roanoke led in shots 15-10 and had six penalty corners to two for the Tigers.
  • Emma Clark made seven saves in the game, including five key saves in the fourth quarter to preserve the Roanoke lead. Barbara Canty made four saves for the Tigers.
