The Lead: The Maroons played host to the University of Lynchburg as both teams opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Wednesday night. The Hornets would score the first two goals of the evening and took a 2-0 edge into the final period of play. A Roanoke score would cut the deficit in half with 12 minutes left to play. However, on their eighth Penalty Corner of the night, Lynchburg scored to end any hopes of a Maroon rally.

Highlights:

  • The first period would see each team get off one shot and the game would be scoreless heading into the second quarter.
  • The second frame belonged Lynchburg. The Hornets out-shot RC 6-0 and took a 1-0 lead into the half.
  • After another Hornet score, the Maroons found themselves down 2-0 with just 15 minutes left to play.
  • Just over three minutes into the final period, Emilee Wooten took a pass into the circle from Claudia Roncone and sent a shot into the left side of the goal to make it 2-1.
  • Five minutes later, Lynchburg answered with a score off the Penalty Corner to seal the 3-1 ODAC victory.
  • Hannah Roerden had a two saves while Madison Filson added a defensive save for the Maroons.

Up next: Roanoke will honor her seniors on Saturday prior to the start of their game with St. Mary's (Md.) The game is scheduled to start at noon in Kerr Stadium.
