The Lead: The Roanoke field hockey team traveled to Lexington to face W&L on Tuesday night. The Maroons went in search of evening their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) record while the undefeated Generals hoped to get off to a 2-0 start in conference play. Washington and Lee struck first with a pair of first period scores. Two more in the second half would see the Generals take the game, 4-0.

Highlights:

  • Roanoke would be outshot, 4-0, in the opening period of play. 35 seconds into the game, Washington and Lee dribbled into the circle and sent a long shot into the cage for a 1-0 lead.
  • At the five-minute mark, W&L would add to their lead to make it 2-0 and carry that advantage into the half.
  • With 1:30 left in the third quarter, the home team made it 3-0 with a goal off a backhand shot and after a fourth period goal, the final would be 4-0, W&L.
  • The Maroons would face 25 total and 18 shots on goal.
  • Hannah Roerden had eight of RC's 14 saves. Madison Wingerter came in for the final nine plus minutes to record five saves while Hope Keller added a defensive save for the Maroons.

Up next: Roanoke travels to Kentucky to play a pair of contests over the weekend. The first of the games will be with Centre on Friday night at 7:00pm.
