The Lead: The Roanoke College Men's Basketball team scored a 63-60 overtime win at Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
- A low scoring first-half saw the Maroons take an 18-16 lead following a Tripp Greene three-pointer with just over four minutes to play.
- RC led 20-19 with three minutes to go but EMU would score the final six points of the half to take a 25-20 lead at halftime.
- With the Royals up 36-28 with 14 minutes to go in the game, the Maroons strung together a 12-4 run, tying the game up at 40-40 on a Caleb Jordan basket at the 10:30 mark.
- Roanoke would take a 52-51 lead on a Dillon Thomas three-pointer with four and half minutes to play.
- EMU tied the game at 52-52 with 3:12 left on the clock following a free-throw from Alijah Ellis.
- A Thomas free-throw gave RC a 54-52 lead with 2:16 left to play before EMU tied the game on a DJ Hill layup with just over a minute to go.
- Jordan had a chance to win the game for RC as time expired but his shot missed and the game headed to overtime.
- Eastern Mennonite led 59-58 with 1:38 to go in the extra period when Greene drained a three-pointer to give Roanoke a 61-59 lead.
- A Hill free-throw on the Royals next possession made it a 61-60 contest. On RC's ensuing possession, Ethan Rohan made one-of-two free-throws to push RC in front 62-60.
- After the teams exchanged defensive stops, Eastern Mennonite went to the line with a chance to tie the game with 18 seconds left but could not convert either shot from the charity stripe.
- Jordan got the rebound on the second missed foul shot, was fouled and made 1-of-2 free-throws on the other end to put the Maroons up 63-60.
- Following an EMU timeout, Tie Evans missed a three-point shot with eight seconds to go. Mizz Nyagwegwe got the offensive rebound but RC's Joe Mikalauskas was able to steal the ball from Nyagwegwe and was then fouled.
- Mikalauskas missed both free-throws with Hill grabbing the rebound and attempted a desperation half-court shot that missed and sealed the win for RC.
- Jordan led Roanoke with 18 points. Greene finished with 15 points off the bench and Kasey Draper had 14. Rohan grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Maroons.
- Hill led EU with 16 points and 11 boards.
