The Basics
Score:  Roanoke 80 | Shenandoah 71 (OT)
Records: Maroons 13-4 / 5-3 ODAC | Hornets 3-14 / 2-6 ODAC
Location: Winchester, Va.

The Lead: The Maroons made the trip north to face Shenandoah University on Wednesday night. The matchup with the Hornets would be the first of two games with Shenandoah over the next two weeks. Roanoke found themselves down 12 with just over eight minutes left in the first half. The Maroons would close the gap to 38-30 at the break. It took just over four minutes in the second half for the Maroons to come all the way back and take the lead. However, as the clock struck 00:00, Shenandoah had hit a game tying jump shot to send the game into overtime, 68-68. Roanoke took the lead and never looked back on their way to an 80-71, overtime, win.

How it Happened:

  • The Hornets scored first before an Ethan Rohan bucket would see Roanoke in front for the first time. Shenandoah answered right away and over the next eight minutes, would build a 25-13 advantage.
  • Efosa U-Edosomwan and Trent Dawson scored five straight to cut the deficit to 25-18. Kasey Draper got the Maroons to within five but the Hornets would rebuild their lead to eight, 38-30, at the break.
  • Draper scored nine and after a Joshua McClary layup, RC had come back to within a point, 42-41 with just over 16-minutes left to play. A Draper 3-ball put the Maroons back in front for the first time since early in the first half.
  • The two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rivals would trade the lead back and forth for the remainder of regulation. With 1:21 to play and RC holding a 67-63 edge, the Hornets made one last run and after a three-point play, the RC advantage was down to a single point. Nick Price hit a free throw before a Hornet jump shot with just seconds on the clock would tie the score at 68-68 and send the game into overtime.
  • Draper and U-Edosomwan would score all 12 of Roanoke's overtime points on the way to taking the extra frame, 12-3, and the game 80-71.
  • Draper finished with a career high 32 points and 17 rebounds while U-Edosomowan added 17 points and seven boards. Price and McClary each handed out three assists.

Up next: The Roanoke men will play the back end of a women's/men's double header on Saturday. It's RC Basketball Alumni Day in the Cregger Center with the Maroons playing host to Randolph college at 4:30pm.
