  • The Short Story: On the night that Tripp Greene scored his 1,000th career point, the Roanoke men's basketball team swatted the Hornets of Shenandoah with a 98-64 win in Salem. The game took place in the Bast Center Gym, the former home of the Maroons, as a pipe burst in the Cregger Center caused damage to the gym floor. Kasey Draper led all scorers on the night with 22 points in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was a game of runs to start for both teams as the Maroons jumped out to a 5-0 lead just one minute into the game. SU responded with a 6-0 run over the next 1:08 to take the lead. The two teams then would go back and forth with the squads tied up at 9-9 at 15:52. A 7-0 run by Roanoke over the next three, plus minutes gave the Maroons the lead for good.
  • The Hornets would pull within three at 16-13 with 11:47 left, but a 9-0 run by the Maroons, capped by a jumper by Draper, put Roanoke ahead by 12 with just under 10 minutes before halftime. The closest SU got the rest of the half was with 8:30 left, a jumper by Malik Jordan brought them within five at 25-20. Over the next 7:20, the Maroons' offensive came alive with another run, this time a 17-0 run to leap ahead 42-20 with just over a minute in the half. Roanoke kept a 21-point lead at the break, 44-23.
  • Both teams scored more in the second half than they did in the first, but the Maroons outperformed the Hornets once again, scoring 54 points to 41 for the visitors.
  • Roanoke had its biggest lead with 9:16 left in the game when a dunk by Ethan Rohan put the Maroons ahead by 39. Roanoke closed out the game, nearly reaching a three-digit score with a 98-64 score, with a 34-point win.

  • Roanoke led the Hornets in nearly every statistical category including field goal percentage (59-.7-48.9), three-pointers made (11-8), free throws made (13-12), rebounds (32-26), assists (20-11), points off turnovers (28-11), and points in the paint (44-20).
