The Basics
Score: Roanoke 7 | Washington and Lee 8
Records: Maroons 2-2 / 1-1 ODAC | Generals 2-1 / 1-0 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke welcomed Washington and Lee to Kerr Stadium on Saturday looking to run their early season Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) record to 2-0 after a win over Bridgewater. The Maroons raced out to a 4-1 lead over the Generals after one quarter of play. However, the visitors from Lexington would hold RC to just three scores the final three periods as the Generals rallied for the 8-7 win.

How it Happened:

  • The scoring got started early when Luca Docking scored a goal less than two minutes into the game when RC was up a man.
  • Two minutes later Luke Kammerman scored on a feed from Ethan Caldwell to put the Maroons up two.
  • After W&L trimmed the lead in half, Jay Frye would score at the midway point of the opening frame. With just over two and a half minutes to go, Caldwell would push the advantage to 4-1 heading into the second quarter.
  • The Roanoke offense was held scoreless over the next 15 minutes and with Washington and Lee scoring a pair of goals the lead would be cut to a single score, 4-3, heading into the half.
  • The generals would tie the game 2:30 into the third quarter but with just over four minutes left in the period, Frye found Owen Curry and RC was back in front. However, the visitors would get the equalizer and the game was 5-5 heading into the final stanza.
  • Bryson Miller and Kammerman would make it 7-5 Maroons with 10 minutes remaining.
  • Over the next three minutes of play the Generals would score a trio of goals giving them a one-goal edge with seven minutes to play.
  • Neither defense would allow another score and when the horn sounded, W&L had rallied for the 8-7 win.
  • Kammerman finished with two goals and an assist. Caldwell scored once with two helpers and Frye added one goal and one assist. Matt Federau saw 25 shots on goal, registering 17 saves on the afternoon and Austin Gambino won six of his 13 face offs.

Up Next: Roanoke will play host to Ferrum on Wednesday afternoon with a 5:00pm start.
