RC defeats BC 19-14

The Basics
Score: Roanoke 19 | Bridgewater 14
Records: Maroons 8-4 / 4-1 ODAC | Eagles 7-5 / 2-3 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Wednesday night marked the first time that Roanoke had faced Bridgewater since the Eagles knocked the Maroons out of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Lacrosse Tournament last spring. Two different 3-0 Roanoke runs would see the Maroons lead 7-5 after the opening quarter. The advantage would grow to three at the break but the Eagles closed the gap to 15-13 with just 15-minutes to play. A 4-1 final frame would allow Roanoke to pull away late for the 19-14 ODAC win.

How it Happened:

  • The reigning ODAC Player of the Week Luke Kammerman had a great start with three goals and an assist in the first period alone. With the score tied at 4-4, Kammerman scored ahead of goals by Luca Docking and Stephen Conte as the Maroons held a 7-5 edge after one quarter of play.
  • The two teams traded scores before a Trevor Stocks goal from a Wyatt Whitlow pass allowed the Maroons to retake the three-goal advantage. Whitlow and Reece Reynolds would equal a pair of Bridgewater tallies and the game was 12-9 at the half.
  • Kammerman from Docking and another Docking marker would see the lead grow to five. However, the eagles would close the deficit to 15-13 heading into the final quarter.
  • Whitlow scored three more times and when Docking added another, the final would be 19-14 in favor of the Maroons.
  • Whitlow finished with six goals and a pair of helpers while Kammerman and Docking combined for 10 scores and six helpers. John Dias secured five of Roanoke's 49 ground balls with Whitlow, Kammerman, Reynolds, and RT Williamson each picking up four ground balls. In goal, Taylor Lewis made several key saves, 14 on the night, in helping to preserve the win.

Up Next: The Maroons are scheduled to play host to Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon, 4:00pm, at Kerr Stadium.
