The Lead: After having their matchup with Lynchburg postponed for a day, the Roanoke men's lacrosse team traveled to Lexington to face the Hornets in the semifinals of the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Lynchburg took a 4-2 lead after one quarter and a 10-5 edge into the half. With a 4-0 third frame, the Hornets put the game away and advanced to the ODAC finals with a 17-9 win over the Maroons.  

How it Happened:

  • Ethan Caldwell scored to give Roanoke the early advantage. Lynchburg would score four of the next five goals to take a 4-2 lead after one period of play.
  • After two more Lynchburg scores, Luke Kammerman and George Gilbert scored back-to-back goals to keep it close. However, the Hornets closed the half on a 4-1 run to take a 10-5 lead into the break.
  • Lynchburg would essentially put the game away with a 4-0, third quarter to take a 14-5 lead into the final 15-minutes of play.
  • Wyatt Whitlow opened the final frame with a score and Gilbert added another. Brooks Klyver cut the deficit into single digits and when Luca Docking scored late, Lynchburg had advanced in the Tournament with a 17-9 win.
  • Gilbert led the Maroons with two goals while Taylor Lewis went the distance in goal with 13 saves.
