Maroons Fall to No. 6 Salisbury in Season Opener

The Lead: The Roanoke men's lacrosse team opened the 2023 season on Saturday afternoon by taking on No. 6 Salisbury on the road. The Maroons fell 18-10 to the Seagulls.

How it Happened:

  • Luke Kammerman opened the first quarter with an immediate caused turnover and picked up and fired a goal just seven seconds into the game putting the Maroons up 1-0. The two teams traded goals for the rest of the opening period with the score tied up at 5-5.
  • The Seagulls opened the quarter with five goals before Jay Frye scored an unassisted goal with 3:42 left on the clock. SU added a pair of goals before halftime as the Seagulls led 12-6 at the break.
  • The third quarter was much like the first with the teams trading goals with the Seagulls scoring three and Roanoke scoring two. The Maroons got goals from Wyatt Whitlow (from Julian Kammerman) and Noah Goad, unassisted to head into the final period with SU leading 15-8.
  • Goad scored his third goal of the game with Ethan Caldwell scoring with 17 seconds left as the Seagulls held on for the 18-10 win.

Up Next: Roanoke will be back on campus on Saturday, February 18 when they host Sewanee in the home opener. The first faceoff with the Tigers is at 2 p.m. from Kerr Stadium.
