The Lead: The Roanoke men's lacrosse team trailed after 15 minutes, but a big second quarter and a continued offensive and defensive effort lifted the Maroons over John Carroll on Saturday afternoon 20-14.

Roanoke Highlights:

  • The two teams went scored back-and-forth for nearly the first 10 minutes of the game with the Blue Streaks leading 3-2 after a man-up goal at 6:22. JCU scored two more as part of a 3-0 run before Wyatt Whitlow scored his first goal of the game at 2:22 cutting the lead down to two. Just 16 seconds later Morgan Morell scored his fourth of the quarter for the Blue Streaks putting the lead back to three at 6-3 after the first quarter. 
  • The second quarter was much more in the Maroons' favor with Roanoke scoring six of the first seven goals in the period. Luca Docking scored twice in just over the first two minutes to cut the lead down to one. After a Blue Streak goal put them ahead 7-5, Whitlow scored three of the next four goals for the Maroons with two assists from Luke Kammerman and one from Docking. L. Kammerman was the other goal scorer in this stretch when he was assisted by his brother Julian Kammerman at 10:25. JCU scored two more goals to tie the score at 9-9 with 3:32 left before the half, but both L. Kammerman and Whitlow added to their totals, giving the Maroons an 11-9 advantage after 30 minutes. 
  • The next two periods saw the Maroons outscore JCU by two in each with Docking, L. Kammerman, Whitlow, and Noah Goad each scoring at least one goal in the third to put Roanoked on top 16-12 after three periods.
  • A single goal by the Blue Streaks at 13:30 was responded to by the Maroons with goals by Docking, two by J. Kammerman, and Whitlow's eighth goal of the day with 1:59 left. JCU scored eight seconds later to provide the final 20-14 margin of victory for Roanoke.
  • Whitlow finished the game with eight goals and two assists for a 10-point game. Docking ended with five goals and one assist while L. Kammerman also had six points with three goals and three assists. 
  • Alex Feuer earned the first win of his career playing the second half, making seven saves. 
  • The Maroons led the Blue Streaks in several categories including ground balls (41-17), clears (22-20), faceoff wins (25-13), shots (56-36)

Up Next: Roanoke will play one game away this week at Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday, March 7 at 4 p.m. before returning home for a four-game home stand.
