The Lead: The Roanoke Men's Soccer Team upended (R/V) Oglethorpe 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Atlanta to improve to 7-0-1 on the season.

How it Happened:

  • The Maroons got on the board in the 36th minute when Philani Mlotshwa set up Gabriel Hendi for his fourth goal of the season that gave RC a 1-0 lead.
  • The score remained that way until the 76th minute when Luca Kuettel assisted Anthony Wisdo on a strike that doubled the Maroon advantage to 2-0.
  • Oglethorpe had a chance to cut the RC lead in half in the 84th minute but Affonso Tempora's shot hit the post and it remained a two goal edge for the Maroons.
  • The RC defense made the lead stand up led by goalkeeper Zach Behe who had six saves on the day, including five in the second-half
  • Oglethorpe outshot RC 17-9 and held a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
  • Oglethorpe entered the match receiving votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll and were previously ranked as high as No.3 in the nation this season.

Up Next: Roanoke will host Lynchburg on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. as part of the College's Family Weekend activities. The Maroons will also honor their senior class prior to the match.
