The Lead: The 2021 Roanoke College men's soccer team took the field for their home opener under the lights on Wednesday night. A beautiful first half score would stake the Maroons to an early 1-0 advantage. The Roanoke defense would make the early score stand up as Roanoke picked up a shutout win over Greensboro College.
Highlights:
- Less than 20 minutes into the first half, Roanoke would get their first score of the season. Nathan Carey sent a perfect pass from the left corner to the front of the Pride net. Liam Camilleri elevated and placed a pin-point header to back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
- The Maroons would enjoy a 7-3 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes of play as the Roanoke defense did not allow a goal. Zach Behe recorded a pair of first half saves and the home team took the lead into the break.
- The second half would see the Maroons have a couple of good scoring chances but each time, Greensboro was able to make the stop with the Pride keeper picking up two, second half, saves.
- The Roanoke defense was up to the task as they were able to keep Greensboro off the board for the 1-0, shutout win.
- Behe finished with three stops in net. The Roanoke offense out-shot the Pride 14-7 on the night.
Up next: Roanoke will take to the road for a pair of games in Maryland over the weekend. The Maroons face Salisbury on Saturday at 1:00pm.
