The Lead: The Maroons traveled to Lexington to face the #1 ranked Generals of Washington and Lee. Roanoke struck first to take a 1-0 lead that held up until the break. At the 73-minute mark, the Generals tied to score and the game would go into overtime. Neither team scored during the two, extra periods and the match would end in a 1-1 draw.

Highlights:

  • Just over 10 minutes into the match, Liam Camilleri beat the Washington and Lee keeper off a feed from Anthony Zarlenga to stun the home crowd in Lexington.
  • A minute later, the Generals were awarded a Penalty Kick. Jack Rawlins sent a shot towards the Roanoke goal but the PK was saved by Zach Behe and the Maroons would keep their one-goal advantage.
  • The home team enjoyed a 9-3, first half shot edge, but the lead belonged to Roanoke at the half.
  • 17 second half Washington and Lee shots would put pressure on the Roanoke defense throughout the next 45 minutes and at the 73-minute mark, Adrian Zimmerman would knot the score at 1-1 and send the match into overtime.
  • 7-1 was the shot advantage for the generals but the Roanoke defense held for the extra 20 minutes and the match would end in a 1-1 draw.
  • The final shot tally would be 33-5 in favor of the top ranked Generals. Behe finished the night with 10 saves as many of the W&L shots were blocked by Roanoke defenders.
