FOREST, Va. --- Roanoke's men's and women's tennis teams were selected fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 2011 ODAC Tennis Pre-Season Polls announced this weekend. Phil Benne returns for his 22nd season for the men, while Scott Gibson heads up the women for his 12th season for the Maroons.
The women posted a 10-6 overall mark and a 7-3 record in ODAC play a year ago. The Maroons welcome back three second team selections, including Laura Dodson and Cobin Leitch. Dodson captured All-ODAC Second Team honors in No. 1 singles, while Leitch took home second team honors at No. 3 singles. The duo partnered up and notched a 12-4 overall record in doubles en route to collecting All-ODAC Second Team honors at No. 1 doubles. Senior Kelsey White also returns after earning All-ODAC Second Team accolades at No. 2 singles.
The men's team is led by Jon Roy, who posted a 9-4 singles record including 7-4 from the top spot. He reached the quarterfinals at the ITA regionals in October, leading to their high region ranking to open the spring. Also back is James Lee, who went 9-7 in singles play during his first season as a Maroon.
