Softball Set to Start 2019 on March 1

SALEM, Va. – Roanoke Softball is set to start the 2019 season on Friday, March 1 with a doubleheader against Geneva at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem.

Head Coach Mike Mitchell and the Maroons will play in 40 games this season featuring 16 home, 16 away and eight neutral site games.

RC will take part in its home Mountain Mash tournament on Saturday, March 2 facing Wilson and Pitt-Bradford before heading to Clermont, Fla. for eight games over a span of five days, March 4-8.

The Maroons will head to Newport News, Va. on Sunday March 17 for a doubleheader with Christopher Newport followed by a trip to Emory, Va. to kick off conference play at Emory & Henry on March 20.

Roanoke will face three straight 2018 NCAA Tournament teams beginning with a home contest with Lynchburg on April 11 before heading to Randolph-Macon on April 13 and defending two-time national champion Virginia Wesleyan on April 14.

Eastern Mennonite will travel to Salem on April 19 for the final game of the regular season.

RC was tabbed No. 6 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Preseason Poll released earlier this month with 56 points, just two points behind No. 5 Guilford. Virginia Wesleyan earned the top spot with 100 points and 10 first place votes followed by Randolph-Macon in second with 90 points and one first place vote.

Last season, Roanoke finished with a 24-18 overall and 11-7 conference record. 2018 All-ODAC selections Teresa Wagner and Emily Salsberry return for their final campaign for the Maroons. Wagner was tabbed Second Team All-ODAC while Salsberry was Third Team.
