Score: Roanoke 10, Wittenberg 2 (5 innings)

Location: Clermont, Fla.

The Lead: Roanoke capped the day with a five-inning 10-2 win over Wittenberg.

How it Happened: 

  • Serenity Bishop gave Roanoke an early 4-0 lead following a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Rebecca Hensley scored earlier in the inning off a wild pitch while  Brooke Trapuzzano scored on an RBI single from Shanan Hester.
  • The Maroons tacked on three more runs in the second, highlighted by an RBI single from Kate Priester to make it a 7-0 game.
  • Wittenberg got on the board with a run in the top of the third but Roanoke responded with a three-run inning in the bottom of the third.
  • In the third, Hester hit a double scoring Hensley and Allison Wagner. Anna Clowdis followed suit with a single plating Hester to extend the lead to 10-1.
  • The Tigers scored one run in the top of the fourth before Teresa Wagner retired two batters on a ground out and a strikeout to end the inning.
  • Wagner got the win giving up two runs off five hits in the complete game performance.
  • Hester was 2-for-2 with three RBI for the Maroons while Bishop and Clowdis both added two RBI.

Records: Roanoke 3-1, Adrian 2-1
Location: Clermont, Fla.

The Lead: Roanoke fell 4-2 in the opening game Monday afternoon in Florida. 

How it Happened:

  • Adrian scored one run each in four straight innings to take the lead, starting with a run off one hit and two Roanoke errors in the second inning.
  • The Bulldogs strung together a double and two singles to score Krista Lynch and make it 2-0 at the end of the third inning.
  • With the game 3-0, in the top of the fifth, Rebecca Hensley started off the inning with a double. Brooke Trapuzzano reached on an error, allowing Hensley to score and get Roanoke on the board making it 3-1.
  • Lauren McCulligh lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to give Adrian a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
  • After a scoreless sixth inning, Hensley singled before Ellasen Spangler hit a two-out RBI single, plating Hensley and closing the gap 4-2. Clowdis singled to keep the inning alive before the Bulldogs were able to get the final out and secure the win.
  • Courtney Oliver was tabbed with the loss going five innings, giving up four runs off six hits. Olivia Simmons threw the final inning for the Maroons, allowing just one hit.
  • Hensley went 2-for-4 while Alyssa Heath and Briana Nardone both went 2-for-3 for RC.
  • McCulligh earned the win allowing five hits and no runs in the first four innings for AC.
