The Basics

Game 1
Score: Emory & Henry 5, Roanoke 4
Records: Roanoke 10-6, 0-1 ODAC | Emory & Henry 8-8, 1-0 ODAC
Location: Emory, Va.

The Lead: The Wasps pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to take game one 5-4. 

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke took an early 1-0 lead as Brooke Trapuzzano singled up the middle in the top of the first. Anna Clowdis then singled to left field, scoring Trapuzzano.
  • With the score 1-1 in the top of the second, Rebecca Hensley hit a two-out double down the left field line followed by an RBI double from Trapuzzano to give RC a 2-1 lead. Shanan Hester kept the inning going with a single down the left field line to extend the lead to 3-1.
  • Emory & Henry brought it within one in the bottom half of the inning, scoring one run off two Roanoke errors to make it 3-2.
  • The Wasps scored two runs on an Amanda Whitlow single and an error in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.
  • Trapuzzano started off the top of the seventh with a triple before tying the game one pitch later on a wild pitch.
  • E&H scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh off a bunt from Casey Yates, scoring Erin Anderson.
  • Trapuzzano was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Hensley was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
  • Cameron Derr earned the win for E&H giving up only seven hits and four runs in the complete game performance while striking out nine.

Game 2
Score: Emory & Henry 4, Roanoke 1
Records: Roanoke 10-7, 0-2 ODAC | Emory & Henry 9-8, 2-0 ODAC
Location: Emory, Va.

The Lead: Emory used a three-run fifth inning to take a 4-1 decision over Roanoke in game two.

How it Happened:

  • Kendall Varner hit a home run in the bottom of the first to give E&H a 1-0 advantage.
  • After three scoreless innings, Leanna Toler hit a two-out three-run homer to push ahead 4-0.
  • Roanoke rallied for one run in the top of the seventh as Meagan Evans hit a single to lead off the inning, Kendall Penn walked before moving to third on a fielders choice off the bat of Hensley. Pinch runner Lyndsey Riti scored from third on a failed pickoff attempt to make it 4-1.
  • Brooke Trapuzzano then walked to load the bases but pitcher Alex Braun forced a fly out for the final out to secure the win.
  • Braun allowed only four hits and one run while striking out seven in game two.
