Game 1
Score:
Roanoke 10, Randolph 2

The Lead: Roanoke scored in every inning as it topped Randolph 10-2 to open the ODAC doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • Roanoke got on the board in the first inning when Rebecca Hensley singled to open the inning, stole second and scored on a Brooke Trapuzzano single that made it 1-0.
  • With the score 2-0 Maroons in the third inning, RC got back-to-back singles by Shanah Hester and Serenity Bishop who would each move up a base on an Anna Clowdis sacrifice bunt. Both would come home on a Briana Nardone hit that made it 4-0.
  • In the Roanoke fourth inning, the Maroons used five hits to score four runs. In the inning, Nardone knocked in a pair with a double, while Hester and Bishop each had RBI singles.
  • After Randolph got a pair of runs back in the top of the fifth inning, RC ended the game thanks to RBI doubles by Hensley and Hester.
  • Teresa Wagner got the win for RC to improve to 5-3. She struck out three and gave up two runs on four hits. Hensley, Hester and Bishop all finished with three hits for RC.
  • Danielle Shannon dropped to 0-3 for Randolph after giving up eight runs in four innings of work.

Game 2

Records: Roanoke 12-9 / 2-2 ODAC | Randolph 11-10-1 / 2-6 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke secured the doubleheader sweep with a 4-3 win over Randolph in game two. 

How it Happened:

  • After Randolph jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one half inning of play, RC responded with a pair of runs in the second and third innings.
  • In the second, Nardone reached on an error to start the inning before being lifted for a pinch runner. With two outs Allison Wagner singled to score the pinch runner Elizabeth Rathbone and make it a 3-1 game.
  • Rebecca Hensley would then follow with a single to score Kendall Penn to make it 3-2.
  • Kate Priester and Penn would deliver two-out RBI singles in the third inning and give RC a 4-3 advantage.
  • Emily Salsberry would make the lead hold up as she went the distance to improve to 5-3 on the year. She gave up three runs on eight hits and struck out eight.
  • Hensley finished with four hits on the day for RC, while Priester and Penn each had two.
  • Lindsey Chaney dropped to 7-1 on the year after giving up four runs on 12 hits.
