The Basics

Game 2
Score: Roanoke 8, Bridgewater 2
Records: Roanoke 15-10, 5-3 ODAC | Bridgewater 15-9, 3-5 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke took an 8-2 win in game two to split with Bridgewater on Saturday.

How it Happened:

  • Rebecca Hensley led off the top of the first with a single up the middle and then stole second. Brooke Trapuzzano singled to right field, scoring Hensley to make it 1-0. Roanoke added two more runs in the inning with a double from Meagan Evans and RBI singles from both Alyssa Heath and Kate Priester to push ahead 3-0.
  • After a three-up-three-down defensive inning for Roanoke in the top of the fifth, Hensley hit a leadoff single followed by a double from Trapuzzano. Shanan Hester plated Hensley with a single to left. Evans kept the inning going with an RBI single to right field. With one out, Anna Clowdis lifted a sacrifice fly, allowing Hester to score from third and make it a 6-0 game.
  • Bridgewater rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth, off one hit and a pair of Roanoke errors to close the gap to 6-2.
  • The Maroons responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning as Rebecca Hensley and pinch hitter Riley Croghan both scored on a BC error to make it 8-2.
  • Emily Salsberry moved to 6-3 on the season giving up just two unearned runs off four hits while striking out five.
  • Hensley was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and Trapuzzano was 2-for-4 with a team-high two RBI.

Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Bridgewater scored three runs in the fifth inning to take game one 6-3 over Roanoke.

How it Happened:

  • Bridgewater capitalized on two Roanoke errors in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
  • After a scoreless second inning, Kate Priester started the bottom of the third reaching on an Eagle error. With runners on first and second, Rebecca Hensley hit a single to right field scoring Priester. Brooke Trapuzzano followed suit with an RBI single to center evening the game at 2-2.
  • With the score 3-3 in the fifth, Bridgewater rallied for three runs off four hits, with RBI singles from Mikalia Guard and Carolyn Campbell to make it a 6-3 game.
  • Teresa Wagner was tabbed with the loss giving up six runs off eight hits before giving way to Courtney Oliver who allowed only one hit in the final 2.1 innings. Offensively, Kendall Penn was 2-for-2 for the Maroons. 
  • Campbell earned the win allowing only three hits off seven runs and Katrina Martin was 2-for-3.
