SU Takes Two From Roanoke Softball

The Basics
Game 1 

Score: Shenandoah 6, Roanoke 1
Records: Roanoke 15-11 / 5-4 ODAC | Shenandoah 13-13 / 4-5 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Shenandoah used a five run sixth inning en route to a 6-1 win over Roanoke in the opening game of the doubleheader.

How it Happened:

  • SU got on the board in the third inning when Sierra Beaty doubled to lead off the inning, moved to third on a bunt and scored on an RBI single by Carly Shaw to right field.
  • Roanoke tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when a Kendall Penn sacrifice fly scored Elizabeth Rathbone to make it 1-1.
  • In the decisive sixth inning, Shenandoah used five hits and two Maroon errors to score five runs. Carrie Robinson had an RBI double that scored a pair and Beaty tripled to score Robinson and then went home on an RC throwing error.
  • Megan Scalley made the lead stand up for SU has she went the distance allowing seven hits in improving to 5-3 on the season.  Emily Salsberry (6-4) took the loss for RC, going 5.2 innings and giving up six runs and striking out five.

Game 2

Score: Shenandoah 4, Roanoke 1
Records: Roanoke 15-12 / 5-5 ODAC | Shenandoah 14-13 / 5-5 ODAC
Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Carrie Robinson allowed just five hits and one run as Shenandoah swept RC with a 4-1 win in game two.

How it Happened:

  • Shenandoah struck first in game two when Shaw singled to open the game, moved to second on a bunt and scored on an RBI single by Meagan Stout.
  • RC got the run right back when Rebecca Hensley doubled to open the bottom of the first inning and scored when the next batter Brooke Trapuzzano's bunt was misplayed in the SU infield.
  • In the SU second inning, the Hornets took advantage of an RC error with two outs to score and make it 2-1 then Henley singled home Shaw and Madison Clark to make it 4-1.
  • Robinson (6-6) made the lead stand as she went the distance to pick up the win. She allowed five hits and struck out four. RC starter Courtney Oliver (3-3) took the loss after tossing 1.2 innings and giving up four runs, just one of which was earned.
