The Lead: The Roanoke softball team looked to continue their hot start with the final two games of the 2022 Mountain Mash tournament on Saturday. The Maroons did just that with a 10-0 win over Oneonta, followed by a, 16-0, win over Fredonia State. Roanoke is now 8-0 and have outscored their opponents by a total of 86-4.

Highlights:

  • After a Meri Bostic walk, back-to-back doubles by Shanan Hester and Kate Houle would stake the Maroons to yet another early lead.
  • Lauryn Chappell scored on an RBI base hit by Bostic, who would come around and score on a Jordyn DiFava single to make it 4-0. The lead would grow when a Rachel Sirbaugh RBI to right field made it 5-0 after two innings of play.
  • Roanoke took the 5-0 edge into the top of the sixth. Hester started the frame with a single to left and scored on a Houle triple. An infield single and hit by pitch would load the bases. Makayla Austin scored Houle on a sacrifice fly and Chappell walked to reload the bases. Bostic sent three Maroons across the plate with a hit to center field to cap a 5-run inning and close out the scoring in a 10-0 win.
  • Jada Karnes got the start and ran her scoreless streak to 21 innings to start her junior campaign. Karnes allowed four hits and registered six strikeouts.
  • Hester was a perfect 3-3. Bostic was 3-4 with a pair of runs and three RBI while Houle went 3-4 with a run and two RBI.
