RC Women's Hoops Tops R-MC 77-56 in ODAC Action

The Lead: Cary Beahm and Molly Hassell each scored 19 points as Roanoke topped Randolph-Macon 77-56 in ODAC Women's Basketball action Thursday night.  It marks the first win for Roanoke over R-MC since 2010.

How it Happened:

  • Bridget Holleran joined Beahm in double-figures with 14 points and she also dished out a game-high nine assists in the win. The Maroons shot 47.6% for the game, making 30-of-63 shots from the floor in the win, including 5-of-9 attempts from beyond the three-point line.
  • The defense held R-MC to 26.0% shooting on the night, allowing the Yellow Jackets to make just 20-of-77 shots from the floor. R-MC got 22 points and 20 rebounds from Kelly Williams to go along with Kelsey Wisner's 15 points. 
  • After a back-and-forth first quarter, RC broke the game open by ending the half with a 15-2 run, including the final nine points, over the last 6:34 of the second quarter, taking a 40-26 advantage heading into the locker room at the break.
  • A Holleran layup put RC up 49-31 just three minutes into the third quarter before a 9-2 run by R-MC cut the Maroon lead to 51-40 with 4:33 to play. Roanoke responded by scoring seven of the final nine points of the quarter, pushing ahead 58-42 following a Beahm jumper.
  • R-MC rallied with an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter, cutting the RC lead to 58-50 on a three-pointer by Wisner with 7:47 to play in the game. Roanoke would cement the win by scoring the next nine points pushing its lead back to 17 when a Hassell basket made it 67-50 with just under four minutes to play.
