The Lead: Roanoke fell to Birmingham Southern in the final game of the Jean Beamer Tip-Off Classic Sunday afternoon in Salem.

How it Happened:

  • Laura McManimen led the Maroons with 17 points followed by Kristina Harrell with 11 while Victoria Maxwell had a team-high six rebounds.
  • Emilee Olsen tallied a game-high 22 points for the Panthers while Kaitlin Hogan had 14 and Misa Fuji had 12.
  • Roanoke shot 41.2% on the day going 21-of-51 from the field while the Panthers went 23-for-61 for 37.7%.
  • RC connected on five of its 10 shots in the first quarter to hold a 14-8 lead early. 
  • A jumper from Jessica Louros tied the game at 18-18 with six minutes left in the first half but Birmingham Southern went on an 8-0 over the next two minutes to lead 30-25 headed into the intermission.
  • McManimen made a layup with just under four minutes left in the game to close the gap to 56-51, BSC. The Panthers made six free-throws down the stretch to secure the win.
