The Lead: The Maroons and Marlins matched up in the annual Play 4 Kay game on Saturday afternoon. RC started the game on a 10-1 run and never looked back in picking up their 15th victory of the season.

How it Happened:

  • Ayanna Scarborough and Whitney Hopson scored the game's first five points to set the tone for the afternoon.
  • Carter Logan hit a three to cut the Roanoke lead to seven, 6-13, however, a Molly Hassell layup and a pair of Scarborough free throws would cap an 8-0 RC run to close the period.
  • The quarter break did nothing to slow the Maroons as they opened the first four minutes of the second quarter by scoring 10 more, making it an18-0 Roanoke surge to seize control.
  • A Kayla Kinsler bucket would push the spread to 26 with 4:40 to go before the break.
  • Virginia Wesleyan would cut into the lead before Rose Sande nailed a three-pointer to match the largest lead of the first half with just 1:49 on the clock.
  • The second half would see the Maroons start with a 23 point advantage. That edge grew to 34 after a Scarborough layup and the Maroons would go into the final 10 minutes of play with a 33 point lead.
  • With just over six minutes left on the clock, Megan Wheeler hit a shot from long range to give RC her largest lead of the afternoon.
  • The game would be closed with back-to-back assists by Addison Pennell as Roanoke would improve their ODAC record to 10-5.
  • Scarborough posted game highs with 16 points and eight rebounds to go with four assists and a pair of steals.
  • Hopson added 13 points, three assists, and five steals while Kristina Harrel would score nine.
  • Roanoke recorded 19 assists on their 25 made field goals and dominated the glass, 52-38.

Up next: The Maroons will play two in a row on the road before coming back home to wrap up the regular season in two weeks. On Wednesday, RC travels to face a 17-4 Emory & Henry team that they defeated in the Cregger Center back in early January.
