Maroons Drop Saturday Afternoon ODAC Game to Randolph

Maroons Drop Saturday Afternoon ODAC Game to Randolph

THE GAME FACTS

  • Score:  Randolph 69, Roanoke 37
  • Records:  WildCats 15-2, 9-1; Maroons 11-4, 5-3 ODAC
  • Location: Salem, Va. – Bast Center Gym
  • The Short Story: An early run by Randolph allowed the WildCats to pull away from the Roanoke women's basketball in ODAC action as the guests from Lynchburg left with a 69-37 win. The game was played in the Bast Center Gym, the former home of the Maroons, due to a burst pipe that caused damage to the Cregger Center gym floor.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The two teams played even through the first four minutes with the score tied at 4-4. The WildCats then went on an 11-2 to take a nine-point lead with 1:13 left in the quarter. Morgan Micallef scored the next three points the "hard way" by getting fouled on a made layup, but a three as the buzzer sounded by Randolph gave them an 18-9 lead after the first 10 minutes.
  • The second quarter saw the WildCats add 20 points to their total, while Roanoke matched theirs from the first with nine as the visitors had a 38-18 lead at halftime.
  • The Maroons held Randolph to just 16 points in the third quarter, but they could not capitalize on the WildCats turnovers in the period. Randolph extended their lead to 29 by the end of the period, 54-25.
  • The fourth quarter was more back and forth between the teams as Roanoke scored 12 and held the WildCats to 15, but it was not enough as the visitors held on for the 69-37 win.

UP NEXT

  • The Maroons stay at home on Wednesday, January 18 as they host Guilford (13-3, 6-3 ODAC). Tip-off with the Quakers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
