The Lead: The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team made the trip to Gettysburg to open their bid to return to Kerr Stadium in late May for the Final Four of the 2022 NCAA DIII Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The first hurdle for the Maroons would be the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Champions from Bryn Athyn. Roanoke raced out to a 10-0 advantage after one quarter of play and cruised the rest of the way, picking up a 23-4 win and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

How it Happened:

  • Lilly Blair scored on a Free Position shot less than a minute into the matchup. Sydney Harrison made it 2-0 and after Molly Kasemeyer found Riley Chase, the Maroons were off and running.
  • Libby Bowman scored off a second Kasemeyer assist and Nicole Harrison made it 5-0. Tiernan Connor assisted on another Harrison (Sydney) score before Grace Koutouzis netted her first goal of the afternoon. Connor scored after assisting on three straight goals, Blair and Bowman added their second scores as Roanoke took a 10-0 lead after 15-minutes of play.
  • Blair and Emerson Foster each scored twice and Connor added another, giving the Maroons a 15-1 lead at the half.
  • The halftime break did little to slow the Maroons as Roanoke added five more goals. Foster scored her third and fourth goals, Koutouzis added another while Kasemeyer scored to go with her three helpers. Maddie Stopkoski got into the scoring column and Roanoke was up 20-2 after three periods of play.
  • The Lions would score a pair of fourth quarter goals but scores by Koutouzis, Harrison (Nicole), and Tracey Benzing would see the Maroons advance to the second round with a 23-4 victory.
  • Blair finished with four scores and an assist while Foster scored four times with two assists. Koutouzis added three goals with Sophia Chickering claiming 12 draw controls. Kyleigh Chickering got the start and win in goal before giving way to Amber Stallings.

Up Next: With the win the Maroons will face Gettysburg, #4 in the most recent IWLCA Top 25 poll, tomorrow on the Bullets home field. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
