The Lead: No. 12 CNU used a three-goal second half to defeat Roanoke 4-1 in non-conference action Thursday night. 

How it Happened:

  • After close to a 90-minute delay due to heavy rains, Roanoke took a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes into the contest as Kathryn Van Orden headed the ball into the back of the net off a pass from Abigail Frazier.
  • Six minutes later, CNU evened the game with a goal from Carson Pokomy, off a shot that was deflected off a Roanoke defender.
  • CNU opened the second half with a goal at the 58-minute mark in what proved to be the game-winner from Riley Cook to make it 2-1.
  • The Captains tacked on a pair of goals at the 61st and 63rd-minute mark to extend the lead to 4-1.
  • Chris Martin made five saves in goal for the Maroons before giving way to Kaitlyn Finch who made one.
  • For CNU, Haley Eiser made two saves before Maddy Belanger replaced her to make one.
