The Basics:

The Lead: The Maroons faced Virginia Wesleyan in their ODAC opener on Saturday afternoon. Roanoke would net the game's only score in the first six minutes to defeat the Marlins, 1-0.

How it Happened:

  • Hailey Davis scored an unassisted goal at the 6:10 mark to give Roanoke an early edge.
  • The first half would see the Marlins enjoy a 5-2 advantage in shots, 2-1 in shots on goal.
  • In the second half, Virginia Wesleyan get a couple of good scoring chances, but the Maroons defense didn't allow the Marlins to tie the game.
  • With 12 minutes remaining, Abigail Burke had the Maroons best scoring chance of the half but Tristen Roberts came up with the save.
  • VWU got five shots on goal, with Chris Martin saving each one en route to the shut-out, her fifth complete game shut-out on the season.
