The Lead: No. 20 Randolph-Macon remained undefeated by scoring a 1-0 win over Roanoke in Salem on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

  • The first 45 minutes would prove to be scoreless with Roanoke holding an 11-7 edge in shots during the first-half. Chris Martin made a pair of stops to help keep the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard.
  • The match would be 0-0 until the 56th minute when R-MC's Gabby Nelson was able gain an advantage on an RC defender and was fouled inside the box, giving the Yellow Jackets a penalty shot.
  • Casey Kent would convert that PK and give R-MC the 1-0 lead.
  • Roanoke had its best chance to score just three minutes later when Ellie Shad was stopped by R-MC keeper Christina Newman. The rebound of Schad's shot was put past Newman but the Maroons were called offside.
  • Martin would finish with five saves on the day including three key stops in the second-half to keep RC within striking distance.
  • Roanoke finished the match outshooting R-MC 17-16, while each team had three corner kicks.
