The Lead: A second half penalty kick helped Ferrum top Roanoke 1-0 in ODAC Women's Soccer action on Wednesday night.

How it Happened

  • In the 26th minute Kathryn Van Orden had a one-touch shot off a corner kick but Ferrum keeper Taylor Dodson was able to make the save.
  • Roanoke's best chance to score came with just over two and a half minutes left in the first half when Lauren Mazurek's shot got behind the keeper but FC's Jenna Janicki came in from her defensive spot and cleared the ball off the goal line.
  • Ferrum got on the board at the 51:27 mark of the second half after a hand ball was called on Roanoke in the box. Alex Mattson then converted the penalty to go up 1-0.
  • Dodson got the shutout after making seven saves, including six in the first half of play. Chris Martin made one save for the Maroons.
  • Roanoke held an 11-4 edge in shots and an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.
