The Lead: The 2020-21 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Soccer Tournament continued on Friday afternoon. The #3 seeded Maroons traveled to Bridgewater to take on the #2 Eagles in one semifinal. Bridgewater had defeated Roanoke, 2-1, back on March 14th with the Maroons looking to exact a bit of revenge with a berth in the Finals on the line. With only five combined shots on goal, the match would be tightly contested. A late second half score by the Eagles would be the difference as BC advanced with the 1-0 win.

Highlights:

  • Both teams would get a couple of good scoring chances during the first 45 minutes, but neither team was able to convert.
  • Bridgewater would enjoy a 5-2 shot edge at the half, but only three shots were on goal, two for the eagles and one for the Maroons.
  • Carrington Lippi recorded a pair of saves in the first half but made several stops on scoring chances to help keep the match scoreless.
  • With 24 minutes left in the second half, the eagles would get on the board when Destiny Zapata got behind the defense and won a one on one opportunity for the goal.
  • As the match entered the later stages, Roanoke got a chance in the Eagles box but they were unable to score the equalizer.
  • At the 85 minute mark, Morgan O'Neill got loose down the right side and just missed the tying score when her shot got passed the Eagle keeper but just wide of the left post. Five minutes later, O'Neill would get free again and sent a pass to the left post but was unable to connect.
  • Lucy Perry was credited with the Maroons lone shot on goal. Lippi finished the afternoon with three saves.
