Bird Headed to NCAA Swimming Championships

SALEM, Va. – Sophomore Reilly Bird has earned a spot in the 2019 NCAA Division lll Women's Swimming Championships as the NCAA Committee officially announced the participants Wednesday.

The 2019 Championships will take place March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. A total of 579 participants will compete in the championships, consisting of 526 swimmers and 53 divers.

Bird qualified for the 100 backstroke as she currently ranks seventh in all of Division lll with a time of 55.93, becoming the program's first-ever championship qualifier. The top qualifier, Crile Hart of Kenyon, posted a time of 54.53.

Bird is the 2019 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Champion in the 100 backstroke, posting a first-place finals time of 56.18 at the Championships Feb. 15-17 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Her NCAA seeding time of 55.93 came in the 100 backstroke prelims at the ODAC Championships. She eclipsed the NCAA B-Cut time (57.00) in both her prelim and final performances.
