The Basics

Score: Roanoke 3 | Piedmont 0 (25-18,25-22,25-12)

The Lead: Linsey Bailey connected for 14 kills as the Maroons closed out the tournament with a 3-0 win over Piedmont.

How it Happened:

  • Parker Moody had seven kills, while Sydney Daniel added five and Olivia Newman had 21 assists.
  • Piedmont got eight kills from Tatiana Paula. The Lions hit just .054 for the match, while RC hit .222.
  • The score was 15-15 in the first set before RC notched 10 of the final 13 points, earning the set win after an error by Piedmont.
  • With the score tied at 12 in the second set, RC went on an 8-3 run, taking a 20-15 lead following a kill by Linsey Bailey. RC led 23-17 before Piedmont scored five of the next six points to cut the lead to 24-22. Daniel would close out the set with a kill and give RC a 2-0 lead.
  • In set three, RC led 9-5 before scoring 12 of the next 17 points, opening up a 21-10 advantage after an Alina Roberts service ace.

The Lead: Roanoke fell in a four-set to battle to Sewanee in game one of the day. 

How it Happened: 

  • Bailey notched a game-high 19 kills followed by Daniel with 13 kills.
  • With 28 digs, Tori Clinevell led the Roanoke defense while Newman directed the offense with 30 assists.
  • After dropping the first set, the Maroons used a 5-1 run, capped by an ace from Kelsey Goodman to tie the second set at 19-19. Ross recorded a kill to take a 26-25 before a Sewanee error secured the second set win for RC, evening the match at 1-1.
  • Sewanee capitalized on a 9-1 run in the third set to break away with a 19-12 edge. Roanoke brought it within three, making it 20-17 Sewanee, following a Daniel ace but that was as close the Maroons would get as the Tigers took the set 25-21.
  • The Tigers broke away from a 20-19 lead with three straight points with a block from Constance Connolly and Mason Gardella to take a 23-19 lead in the final set.
  • Destiny Stewart, Sydney White, and Lilly Reilly all had double-digit kills for the Tigers while Connolly dished out 44 assists.  

Up Next: Roanoke travels to Bridgewater, Va. on Wednesday to kick-off conference action. Game time against the Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m.
