Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to SVU

The Lead: Roanoke dropped a four-set battle at Southern Virginia Thursday in non-conference volleyball action. 

How it Happened:

  • Sydney Daniel led the Maroons with 13 kills followed by Linsey Bailey with nine. Tori Clinevell recorded a game-high 16 digs while Bailey added 12. 
  • With the score 9-8 RC in the first set, Daniel registered a kill that sparked a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 16-11 following another kill from Daniel.
  • SVU brought it within two at 23-21 in the first set but Parker Moody and Kelsey Goodman recorded back-to-back kills coming out of a timeout to take the set.
  • SVU broke away from a 15-15 tie in the second set, scoring 11 unanswered points to even the match 1-1.
  • In the third set, the Knights won four straight points to break away from a 6-6 tie to take the final lead of the set.
  • With RC leading 9-7 in the fourth set, SVU capitalized on four RC errors and a kill from Lindsay Hyer and Hailey Lohnes to take a 9-12 edge.
  • Roanoke brought it within one following an ace from Daniel to make it 22-21 but Southern Virginia claimed two of the last three points to secure the win.
  • SVU was led by Lohnes and Ella Burrows with 16 and 12 kills, respectively.
